What we want

by Adric Antfarm on July 31, 2010

I am impressed.  Normally the stupid and lazy have to fake some knowledge of an event like today.  We've not only saved them the trouble, we've given them a sound bite, a catchphrase, a giggle, and a way to drop $L30 on our shirt.

It is easier than telling the true which is we all want to fuck each other senseless.  No, not in the good way.

Those who own a region or more want it known they pay $3600 a year (a figure I hear a lot now very loudly) and they are entitled to support when they ask for it.  Those who are now appearing lower in search than they were want those bastards above them put below them.  Those people who like shadows and eye candy want a viewer than gives them Kristen's effects and then some.  Those people who want simplicity and a portable platform want a viewer with graphics that will run on a wide range of lower end hardware.  Those people who like features want Emerald to be the viewer for all.  Those people who want a simple viewer and easier experience want– fuck if I know, AOL I guess (but not Emerald).  Those in education want something that makes their students commit suicide less.  Those who work with the disabled want a viewer that they are able to use without difficulty.  Those in business want a clean grid.  Those who sell purple double headed dildos want somewhat less of a clean grid.  Those who say Linden is really a hosting company demand they hire an army of customer service representatives to service their needs.  Those who sell products say Linden needs to hire an army of DMCA enforcers to ensure their product is safe from copy at all times.

Oh, I agree Linden has made many mistakes. Jira for example.  Letting you asshats jack them around and set the agenda with conflicting demands for years was just dumb.  Never forget that Viewer 2 is something they said we would hate which can only mean they wanted to see how much we would take or they really place too much value in the equal of letting you know that hammer they are about to smack you in the head with might not be something you find enjoyable.

The rest?  All that conflicting shit up top?  I feel in my dark cold heart Phil will do his best to please as many groups as possible, but that is not going to extend to cash. They will bring in open source minds and fix search, and tweak things, but if you see a flood of new customer service or any hires, you may be disappointed.  This means that some of the issues like crossings and stability are not going to be fast.  So many things like region avatar limits are legacy based and could  require a step forward that costs serious cash.  To get that cash is easy.  Make the case to those in control that spending a ton of cash will bring in a ton of new users who stay and spend a ton of money and  it will get done.   How you make that case when we both know it to be false is my concern.

Second Life can go on for years.  It will.  How it goes anywhere near 2006 bank is math I cannot do in my head.   For this reason, I need to tell you the truth.  It's not Linden.  It's these bastards sneaking into Second Life, taking our jobs, using our social services, and changing our language.  If you will kindly direct your attention away from Linden and on to these interlopers for a while I am sure things will be better when you turn back.  Promise.
