Not to be believed
There is no central web ranking site or method. Some swear by Technocrati (at least those who find people like to link to their posts). Some swear by Alexa (those dumb enough to have eight toolbars fighting it out for memory). Some swear by Google. Some just swear.
I personally don’t trust any of them. Word Press Stats is honest (and excludes your own hits when logged in) but if only we could make everyone not only use it, but give us their numbers. Until then, I like Compete. It does not rate lower traffic sites (like this and most others) and has a few odd omissions like Dwell on It which I suspect does fairly well (which Alexa confirms and we would report did her ass not write an article trashing it). Have it your way baby. In her defense, in just 48 hours this site has dropped a million slots and now shows only UK readers which is odd given my own data showing an amazing number of people outside the US can’t stand me or this site. It was over 90% US on one look. This would tend to show (as Tater Tot says) Alexa is wonky.
So, view the chart and the following commentary on such as for entertainment purposes only.
Prok Predisposition Postponed (Permanently)?
According to data, Prok and Shopping Cart Disco have traded places. The downward Prok trend met the upward Disco one and it’s now a new game. Prok needs to go back on the offensive or the Disco needs to stop ushering in the copybot fear crowd for coffee to change this one. Alexa shows Disco pulling ahead of Iheartsl which is bad news if you run lots of ads, but this chart shows it closer with that move not yet there.
Given the trend, I dropped Prok and put Massively back on to show how much you can achieve with a general “MMO” site.
The caveat to keep in mind is even passing Prok, the Disco is not in the pack with the other sites.
New World No?
Is Hamlet switching your regular content coffee with “what do you like?” “what do you think?” “how big is your wiener?” no longer doing it for you? According to these numbers (which I refuse to believe), Alphaville has pulled ahead of New World Notes?? WTF? How the hell can this be when their comment section exists solely for the vicious pack of wolves they call readers to tell them how much the article sucks donkey dick (or attack each other)? Hate to break the tie with Alexa, but it shows New World Notes trending down and Alpahaville trending up, however New World Notes still has a lead (that will be gone should that trend continue).
